Cleaning + Care

General Rug Care

  • Vacuum regularly on floor setting. Do not use a beater bar.
  • Rotate rug every 3 to 6 months.
  • Clean spills immediately (see specific fiber cleaning instructions)
  • Use a rug pad
  • For difficult stains, consult an area rug cleaning professional

Routine vacuuming without a beater bar is the key to maintaining the beauty of your rug by preventing the buildup of soil deep in its fibers. If long ends of yarns appear on your rug, do not pull- use scissors to trim evenly with rug surface.

If you choose to use a professional cleaner for difficult stains, confirm they are an area rug cleaning professional with expertise related to your specific rug construction and yarn.

To preserve the life of your rug, we recommend using a rug pad. A rug pad provides extra cushioning underfoot, prevents the rug from slipping and reduces wear and tear. To prolong the life of your rug, we recommend rotating at least every 6 months to minimize wear and fading if in direct sunlight.

Care by Fiber

The kids, the dog, or a clumsy party guest—accidents happen. In fact, removal of spots and spills is one of the most crucial areas of rug maintenance. When anything is dropped or spilled, quick response with the right cleaning material can save the day...and your rug!

WOOL

  • Vacuum regularly without a beater bar
  • Shedding may occur in the first months; this will diminish with regular vacuuming
  • For cut, loop or cut & loop pile: Should long ends of yarn appear, do not pull, trim yarn evenly with rug surface.
  • For woven pile: If a loop is pulled, it will affect other loops in the same row. Gently pull back to the original weave.
  • Spot clean with a solution of water and mild soap—blot, don’t rub. Avoid harsh chemicals.

Just like a fine article of clothing, upholstered furniture needs proper cleaning and care on a regular basis. For maximum comfort and long-term enjoyment, we recommend the following:

  • Frequent vacuuming — Upholstered furniture should be vacuumed once a month to remove the dust and dirt which damage fabric fibers and cause premature wear.
  • Clean spills immediately — Spills and accidents can permanently stain upholstery fabrics. Even a water spill can cause permanent damage to some fabrics if not cleaned up immediately. Be careful to follow the recommended cleaning procedures described on the label beneath the seat cushions.
  • If possible, fluff pillows and rotate cushions — Our upholstered furniture is made to be soft and conform to the user's body with use. Often it will not return to its original shape after use unless the cushions and back pillows are plumped by hand. Be sure to hand fluff pillows and cushions to maintain their shape. This becomes more necessary as the upholstered furniture ages through repeated use.
  • Cushions should be rotated once a week to distribute normal wear to both sides of the cushion.
  • Avoid excessive exposure to natural light — Exposure to natural light can cause some fabrics and leathers to fade. Care should be taken to limit the amount of sunlight on any piece of furniture. Fading is not covered under product warranties.
  • A note on leather care — Different leathers have different care characteristics. Refer to care label under seat cushions for proper care instructions of the leather you've selected.

How to Care for Leather

The most important step you can take to protect your investment is to avoid direct sunlight and heating/cooling sources. Leather is a natural product that is very durable and beautiful. Leather upholstery should be dusted occasionally with a lint-free cloth. Blot spills immediately with distilled water and a soft cotton cloth.
