Recycled Fibers: An Eco-Friendly Option

Over twenty years ago, Company C launched our ColorSpree indoor/outdoor rug collection made with polyester and polypropylene yarns. Our customers loved the alternative fiber for areas in their homes where they did not want to use wool—bathrooms, beach houses, sunrooms and covered porches.

With the success of our ColorSpree collection, we developed our flatweave rugs with polyester made from recycled plastic bottles—polyethylene terephthalate (or PET). We were thrilled with the idea of reusing post-consumer plastic for our yarns. However, it was important to us and our customers to have complete confidence with the entire supply chain of the recycled fibers.

In 2023, Company C became certified to the Global Recycled Standard (GRS), a voluntary standard established by global non-profit Textile Exchange. This standard not only verifies the percentage of recycled content in our certified rugs, but also tracks the fibers from source to final product.

Company C is certified by certified by Ecocert Greenlife, license number TE-00280513
Company C is certified by Bureau Veritas, license number TE-00076280

In addition to verifying recycled content percentage and tracking it through the supply chain, the GRS prohibits the use of potentially harmful chemicals on certified products. Every stage of the supply chain, from source to final product, must be professionally audited to ensure that the requirements are being met.

By transitioning our ColorSpree collection from polypropylene yarns in favor of certified recycled polyester, Company C is committed to strengthening our sustainable product development and supply chain practices.

Look for the GRS logo on many ColorSpree rugs—all of which are made with high quality, hand-spun and easy care yarns.
